After 7 weeks behind the dust sheets, we're delighted to say that we are fully open again!
The pub has had a proper going-over inside and out, and we’re really pleased with the results and can’t wait to show it off.

Welcome to the Crooked Billet
Tucked away in the Buckinghamshire countryside, the Crooked Billet is a historic coaching inn that has stood on the old Roman road of Akeman Street since the 17th century. It’s now freshly refurbished and back under its original name (having previously been called the Akeman Inn), and we’re rather pleased with the result.
The pub has been lovingly restored, keeping its original features and the character that’s drawn people in for over 300 years, complete with a log fire and pleasant gardens to enjoy during the warmer months.
The kitchen cooks freshly prepared dishes from the grill and wood-fired oven, from seasonal pub favourites to hand made pizza, with a good choice of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Our Sunday roast is worth keeping a weekend free for, and the bar is well stocked with real ales, craft beers and a carefully chosen list of wines, including a few special bottles from the Rothschild family, whose Waddesdon estate is close by.
We’re well placed for a day out. Bicester Village is 15 minutes away if you fancy pairing lunch with a spot of shopping, or head the opposite way to the market town of Aylesbury. Waddesdon Manor is just five minutes down the road, so we’re handy for lunch or dinner after a visit.
One last bit of local history. Kingswood once had its own branch of the Brill Tramway, a famously slow railway that was deliberately routed past a pond so the horses hauling the wagons could stop for a drink. We like to think they had the right idea.

Acorn Pubs
Acorn pubs are a collection of 9 pubs, 5 of which offer bedrooms, which sit primarily in the home counties. We could be described as ‘modern pubs’, with an extensive range of draft beers, wines and cocktails with a great menu of freshly cooked Mediterranean-inspired food, which centres around our wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, using traditional cooking techniques and sustainably sourced produce.
Our buildings range from modern to historic, all rejuvenated into contemporary spaces that fit the needs of the communities they serve.
Whether our customers are catching up with friends over drinks, treating the family to Sunday roast in our restaurant, or escaping for a couple of nights to one of our hotels, we pride ourselves on offering the perfect, quality environment to suit, and warm, friendly hospitality.
